DON QUIXOTE i Grand Ballet in Three Acts
25-26 September 2026 | 20:00
Paphos castle
One of the most beloved and exuberant ballets in the classical repertoire comes to Cyprus for the first time as a full-scale production. At its heart is the timeless love story of the barber Basilio and the spirited Kitri, unfolding against the backdrop of vibrant Spain: street celebrations, daring escapes, jealous fathers, and a fearless knight who believes in the triumph of dreams.
The ballet was created in 1869, inspired by Cervantes' immortal novel. Its famous Grand Pas de Deux stands among the pinnacles of classical choreography, demanding true virtuosity from its performers. Dazzling pirouettes, breathtaking leaps, and soaring lifts will leave the audience gasping — while the final variations are guaranteed to bring the house down. Don Quixote is one of the rare ballets where the crowd doesn't simply watch, but reacts with the electric energy of a great sporting event. In the Maribor production, choreographer Krzysztof Nowogrodzki revives it through the lens of Gorsky's legacy and the virtuosic tradition of Nureyev and Baryshnikov — uniting romance, exuberance, and humanity.
