Ballet Philippines’ Alice in Wonderland is neither a film adaptation nor a retelling of the book. It is a poetic journey through imagination, created by choreographer Mikhail Martynyuk as a metaphor for growing up and inner transformation. Here, Alice does not become bigger — she becomes smaller. The wonders around her are grand, while she remains a little girl learning not to fear the unknown.
On stage unfolds the full world of Lewis Carroll: the Mad Tea Party with the Hatter and the March Hare, the garden of talking flowers, flamingo croquet, the Queen of Hearts’ trial, and of course the elusive White Rabbit — the mysterious guide who appears in every scene.
